Music PR cost calculator.

Pick the kind of campaign and how many months the publicist proposes. The calculator turns published monthly prices for music publicity into a total for the campaign, so you can check a quote before you sign.

The guides price music PR by the month but give no standard campaign length, so enter the months in the proposal you have. Pitching usually needs a release date at least four to six weeks away. In the UK, a publicist quoted by the Musicians’ Union starts at £1,000 and uses a sliding scale.

How the calculator works

The total is the published monthly price for the kind of campaign × the months in the proposal. The all-in tier has only a starting price, $2,500 a month and up, so its result is a starting figure.

A worked example: a first package at $500 to $1,500 a month over three months comes to $1,500 to $4,500. An all-in indie campaign over the same three months starts at $7,500.

Where the figures come from

Hypebot’s guide to publicity tiers puts a small first package, with a few pieces of coverage, at $500 to $1,500 a month, and an all-in campaign for indie artists at $2,500 a month and up. It gives no price for a major-label campaign, which it says is usually part of the label deal. DJBooth says to expect anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars a month.

In the UK, the Musicians’ Union guide to hiring music PR quotes a publicist whose prices start at £1,000, on a sliding scale that is higher when a label is paying. Our guide to what music PR costs has the full picture.

What a music publicist delivers

A publicist pitches your release to journalists, bloggers and broadcasters they know, follows up and reports back. The coverage is earned, so nobody can promise it. The first tier brings a few pieces of coverage without branding or a full release strategy; the all-in tier adds that work and, in most cases, more coverage. If a price looks low for the work described, ask how many journalists will be contacted personally.

Be wary of anyone selling guaranteed streams or playlist placements. Spotify warns that using services that guarantee streams can lead to your music being removed.

Where Blue Leopard Media fits

Our music marketing is not a publicist campaign. It combines a YouTube campaign that runs your video as Google Ads to people who watch similar artists, and an editorial feature about you, with your name in the headline and your own digital cover. Together they start at $249 per release.

You approve every word of the feature, and it goes live within 24 hours of your approval of the final draft. It is sponsored content, as our disclaimer states. We don’t sell streams, playlist placements or chart positions, and we don’t guarantee them.
