Download the EPK template

No sign-up and no email: the files download straight away.

Fill in the Word file and use the example to see the finished kit. Our guide to EPKs covers who reads it and when to send it, and the music press release template covers the announcement that goes with it.

How to use the template

Replace everything in brackets and delete the grey notes as you go. Each note says what the section needs, using the same word counts and limits as our guide to EPKs: about 100 words for the short bio, 150 to 250 for the long one, three to five tracks, and one named contact for each job. The filled-in example shows a finished kit for a fictional artist.

Leave out any section you cannot fill honestly. An empty press section is normal for a new artist; padding it is not. If you have paid for a feature, list it as a feature, not as a review.

EPK or music press kit?

The same thing. "Press kit" is the older name, from when it was a folder of photos, a printed bio and a CD; "electronic press kit" or EPK is the version that lives online. Whichever name a blog, promoter or label uses, this template covers what they are asking for.

Word file, PDF or web page?

Fill in the Word file, then publish the result where anyone can open it without a login: a page on your website, an EPK service, or a public shared document. Keep a PDF as a backup for people who ask for a file. Lead with streaming links rather than downloads: most people will not download anything.

Whichever you choose, check every link from a logged-out browser before you send it.

When the kit is ready

Finish the EPK before you pitch anyone about a release, ideally six to eight weeks before release day, so there is time to reach press, curators and promoters. Send a short note with the link, tailored to the person, rather than the kit on its own. If you have news to announce, add a press release.

An EPK points people to your music, your video and what others have written about you. Our music marketing helps with two of those: a YouTube campaign that runs your video as Google Ads to people who watch similar artists, and an editorial feature about you, published on one of the publications we work with. Together they start at $249. The feature is sponsored content, as our disclaimer states.

Questions

Frequently asked.

What is an EPK?

An electronic press kit: one page or document that gives journalists, bookers, promoters, curators and labels everything they need to judge and represent you, from your bio and music to photos, press and contacts.

Is an EPK the same as a music press kit?

Yes. "Press kit" is the older name and "electronic press kit" the online version. This one template works for both.

What should be in an EPK?

A short and a long bio, three to five tracks, a video, press photos, any press or achievements, upcoming releases and shows, and named contacts. The template has a section for each, with a note on what to write.

How long should an EPK be?

Short enough to read in about two minutes. Put what your most important reader needs first: the story and the date for a journalist, live video and booking contacts for a promoter.

Is the template really free?

Yes. The Word file, the PDF guide and the example download straight away, with no sign-up and no email.

Do I need a website for my EPK?

No. A public shared document or an EPK service works too. What matters is that the link opens for anyone, without a login, on a phone.
