Cut the short bio from the artist bio template, link your EPK for everything else, and send a music press release when you have news.

How to use the template

Write one one-sheet for each release, not one for your whole career, and keep it to a single page with one press photo. Fill in the header, the hook and the key numbers first: a label manager or distributor will often decide from those alone. Date every number and give its source, and leave out anything you cannot back up. The finished example shows a one-sheet for a fictional singer-songwriter.

Tailor it to the reader. A distributor or label reads the release details and the promotion plan most closely; a venue wants live numbers and booking contacts; a radio programmer wants the focus track and where you are from. Save it as a PDF and attach it, or link to it, with a short note written for that person.

One-sheet or EPK?

An EPK is the full kit: long and short bios, several tracks, videos, photos, press and every contact, usually on a web page that stays up between releases. A one-sheet is the single page about one release that points to it. ICMP describes the one-sheet as far more concise than an EPK, often a part of one, and lists PR agents, radio, promoters, distributors and journalists among the people who read it.

  • Send a one-sheet for a first contact about a release: a distributor, a label, a streaming editor, a radio show or a venue.
  • Send the EPK when someone wants more: a journalist writing a piece, a booker checking live footage, a label looking at your whole story.

The promotion plan matters most

Labels, distributors and editors want to know the release will have support after it comes out: a video, press, radio, shows, ads. Say what is booked and what is planned, with dates, and keep the two apart. A plan with two real items reads better than a list of hopes. Our guide to promoting your music covers what to put in it.

Something for the plan

Most one-sheets fall short on the promotion plan, and a reader can tell a booked campaign from a hope. Our music marketing runs your official video as a YouTube campaign, shown as Google Ads to people who watch similar artists, and publishes an editorial feature about you on one of the publications we work with. Together they start at $249 per release, with a Google Ads report every week. We don’t sell streams or playlist places. The feature is sponsored content, as our disclaimer states.

Questions

Frequently asked.

What is a music one-sheet?

A single page about one release, for labels, distributors, streaming editors, radio and venues: the artist, the release and its date, a hook, a short bio, key numbers, a promotion plan, links and contacts.

What is the difference between a one-sheet and an EPK?

A one-sheet is one page about one release, for a first contact. An EPK is the full press kit, with bios, music, videos, photos, press and contacts, usually on a web page that stays up between releases.

What does RIYL mean on a one-sheet?

"Recommended if you like": two or three artists your music genuinely sits next to, so a reader can place it quickly. Pick artists your listeners also play, not the most famous names in your genre.

Should a one-sheet include streaming numbers?

Yes, if they help: monthly listeners, streams on a recent release, followers or shows, each with the month and the source. Leave out any number you cannot back up.

How long should a one-sheet be?

One page, with one photo. If it runs over, move the extra detail to your EPK and link to it.

Is the template really free?

Yes. The Word file, the PDF guide and the example download straight away, with no sign-up and no email.
