Pair it with a press release when you have news, and use the professional bio template for the people section. Artists: use the EPK template.

How to use the template

Replace everything in brackets and delete the grey notes. Date every figure, and include only what you are happy to see in print. Then publish the kit as a page on your website, usually at /press or /media, that opens without a login, and keep the Word file as your master copy.

The section most kits leave out is story angles: two or three stories you could help a journalist write. It is often what turns a kit into coverage. The filled-in example shows a finished kit for a fictional company.

Media kit or press kit?

For a company, the same thing: Presspage uses the two names interchangeably for a collection of resources that gives journalists what they need to write about you. Creators and publications also use "media kit" for a different document aimed at advertisers, with audience figures and sponsorship rates. The template covers both: fill in the optional audience and partnerships section only if you sell sponsorships.

What to include

Presspage lists contact details, recent press releases, company background, leadership bios and headshots, logos and brand assets, and photos or video as the essentials, with coverage, awards and FAQs as extras. The template follows that list and adds key facts and story angles, the two things journalists most often have to email to ask for.

Something to put in it

A media kit is stronger with coverage in it, and coverage is the hardest part to get. Our PR & Media Placements service writes an editorial feature about you or your company from a short brief, with your name in the headline, and you approve every word before it goes live. It costs $249 for one publication, $499 for three and $999 for eight, with no retainer, and on the four core titles the approved feature is live within 24 hours of your approval (business days) or you get a full refund. Features are sponsored content, labelled as such, as our disclaimer states.
