Key takeaways
- Most app development projects reviewed on Clutch cost $10,000 to $49,999; the average across its data is about $90,780.
- Clutch says app projects usually take about 11 months from start to finish.
- Publishing costs little: Apple charges $99 a year and Google Play a one-off $25.
- The number of screens, the features behind them and the tools the app connects to set most of the price.
The short answer
Most apps cost between $10,000 and $49,999 to build. That is the range Clutch’s mobile app pricing guide, updated in September 2026, gives for most of the app projects reviewed on its site. The same guide puts the average at $90,780.11, because a smaller number of large projects pull the average up.
Clutch also says the timeline for an app project is usually about 11 months. A simple app for bookings or orders sits at the low end of the range; an app with accounts, payments, live data and connections to several other systems sits at the top. Our own app development prices are further down.

What changes the price
- Screens. Every screen needs design, building and testing on real phones. A booking app with eight screens costs less than a marketplace with forty.
- Accounts and data. Logins, profiles, order history and saved payment details need a server and a database behind the app, not only the app itself.
- Payments. Taking money in the app adds checkout screens, receipts and refunds, and the rules of the payment provider.
- Connections. Linking the app to your booking system, stock list or customer records is often the slowest part of the job.
- One platform or two. An app for both iPhone and Android costs more than an app for one, unless it is built once for both.
Store fees and other costs
Getting the app into the stores is cheap. The Apple Developer Program costs $99 per membership year, and Google Play charges a one-time registration fee of $25. Both stores also take a share of paid apps and in-app purchases, so check their current terms before you set prices.
The bigger cost after launch is people. Every new phone system, store rule and connected tool can need changes. Hiring in-house is the expensive route: the US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median pay for software developers at $135,980 a year in May 2025.
How to keep the cost down
- Start with one job. Launch the app with the one thing customers do most, such as booking or reordering, and add the rest once you see how people use it.
- Ask whether you need an app at all. If customers only visit now and then, a fast website or a web app may do the job without the app stores.
- Approve the design first. Changing a drawing is cheap; changing finished code is not. Sign off every screen before building starts.
- Get a written quote. It should list the screens, the features, the connections and what happens after launch, so nothing is added to the bill later.

Where Blue Leopard Media fits
We build iOS and Android apps from $9,999, and web apps and customer portals from $7,500. Each app is one app for iPhone and Android. We map the journey and design every screen first, and no code is written until you approve the design. Payments and the tools you already use are connected, and the app is tested on real iPhones and Android phones.
Every project starts with a written quote that sets the screens, features and timeline, and the final price is confirmed there. After launch we watch the data and keep improving the app, and the same team can run the ads that bring people to it. See the prices.
